Shirley and I made a recent October trip to Nevada through the high Sierra to view the fall colors and to travel over the mountain passes. On that trip we traversed 7 Sierra passes and visited Lake Tahoe over our three days of driving. After leaving  Modesto, on the first day of our travels, we stopped at the Camp Connell General Store on Rte 4. We had never stopped there before but we needed a rest break and decided to check it out. What a wonderful discovery. Donna and Bryan welcomed us like we were long lost cousins. The store was bright and cheerful and decorated for Halloween. Shirley and I sat at the counter and Bryan made us fresh sandwiches that we enjoyed with chips and a cold soda on ice. It could not have been better. I just love these small businesses that exist to serve the local community and I always try to support them. After lunch, Bryan made us a hot espresso drink for the road and we went on our way into the Sierra happy and refreshed. Make sure you visit them when you are on Rte 4 in the Sierra, you won't be disappointed.
